It’s A Lifestyle Change, Not Just A Diet

Diet – The problem most people run into when they want to get into shape is the notion of a diet. When you think of going on a diet, it seems like a temporary kind of thing, rather than a complete lifestyle change. Usually, people will go hardcore with eating healthy through a diet and exercising, then fall off track once they reach their goals or after only a few days or weeks of trying. These people simply think of a diet as an end, when in reality, you’re working only towards the beginning of your healthy living journey. It’s one thing to lose the weight, but it’s a completely different story when it comes to keeping the weight off for the long term. When you think of all this work as simply going on a diet, then you won’t see the results you like. Once you see things as a lifestyle change instead as a temporary diet, then life will be much easier for you. How so?

First of all, you won’t have to eat boring food that you don’t like all the time like in a diet. Of course, if you want to keep the weight off, you’ll have to eat clean food. Just get yourself out of that “diet” mindset where you’ll have to eat super clean all the time. That diet kind of approach can really mess with your head and ruin the fun you can possibly be having with the people you enjoy the company of. Imagine if you’re at a friend’s backyard barbecue and you have to bring your own food just because they were serving all these unhealthy foods. There’s no fun in that diet. What’s the point in life if you can’t enjoy it? You can’t enjoy a diet for the long term. So you just need to learn how to plan things out instead of focusing so much on strict Diet Plans. With this example, if you happen to know ahead of time that your friend will be hosting such a barbecue, then eat healthy for the week leading up to the event and just eat whatever you like at your friend’s place as long as it’s within moderation. Pigging out at the barbecue is not what you want to do and is the polar opposite of a diet, although that’s something that will most likely happen if you were on a strict diet for so long and still have those cravings for all sorts of unhealthy food.

Your body actually needs carbohydrates and junky food once in a while as a “re-feed” to give your body’s insulin levels a spike. This will help you get past plateaus you may encounter in your weight loss journey. That’s something you obviously can’t do if you keep sticking to your boring and dry diet.

In addition to getting rid of the diet mindset, you need a good strength training routine to lose fast. The more muscle your body has, the easier it’ll be to lose fat. Simply going on a diet won’t give you the results you deserve. You might just become “skinny fat” which isn’t that attractive. Basically, you’ll still have a high body fat percentage despite losing a lot of weight on your diet. To prevent this from happening, you need to lift weights and take in enough protein to build and maintain muscle mass.

To add to the lifestyle change idea, you also need to get enough sleep. If you’re not sleeping enough, then you won’t be able to perform your best in the gym and your weight loss won’t be as effective. Try to get at least seven to eight hours of sleep every night so you body can operate properly the next day. See? It’s more than just going on a diet. There are so many different things you have to change with your overall life to see results that a diet alone can’t help you achieve.
